Privacy Policy
Fuel Gauge does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data on external servers. There are no accounts, no analytics, and no network requests. Everything stays on your device.
Overview
Fuel Gauge (listed on the App Store as “Boat Fuel Gauge & Timer”) is an iOS and Apple Watch app that estimates how much fuel is left in your tank by timing engine run sessions and learning your burn rate. This privacy policy explains what data the app creates, where it is stored, and what leaves your device (nothing).
Data That Stays on Your Device
When you use Fuel Gauge, the following is created and stored locally on your iPhone and Apple Watch:
- Your tank size and learned (or manually set) gallons-per-hour burn rate
- An append-only log of every engine run, fill-up, and fuel-level correction
- GPS tracks (route, distance, speed) for runs where you allow location, stored in a per-session file on your device
- Your display preferences (gauge style and which readout you prefer)
This data never leaves your device. There is no server, no cloud account, and no remote sync. The log is stored in the app's shared App Group container so the Home Screen widget and Live Activity can read the same numbers.
Location Access
Fuel Gauge requests “While Using the App” location access so it can record the GPS route of a run. Location is used only while an engine run is active and is recorded to a file on your device. Your routes and location data are never uploaded, shared, or sent to any server.
Location access is optional. If you decline it, the app works exactly the same — you simply get no route map for your runs. You can change or revoke location access at any time in your device's Settings.
Apple Watch & Sync
If you use the Apple Watch app, your iPhone and Watch exchange their event logs directly over Apple's WatchConnectivity, device-to-device. This is not a cloud service and does not pass through any server we operate. The two logs are merged locally so both devices show the same history.
Backups
Because your data lives in your device's storage, it is included in your normal iPhone backups (Finder or iCloud device backups) just like other app data. These backups are managed by Apple under your own Apple account and settings — Fuel Gauge has no access to them. You can also use Settings → Export all data (JSON) to save your own copy anywhere you choose.
Data Collection
Fuel Gauge collects no data. Specifically:
- No analytics or usage tracking
- No crash reporting or telemetry
- No advertising identifiers
- No personal information or accounts
- No network requests of any kind
The app works fully offline and functions identically with or without an internet connection.
Third-Party Services
Fuel Gauge does not integrate with any third-party services, SDKs, advertising networks, or analytics providers. The only Apple frameworks involved (Core Location for GPS, MapKit to draw your route, WatchConnectivity for phone–watch sync) run on-device and send nothing to us or anyone else.
Data Retention
Your runs, fills, and corrections are retained on your device until you delete them or uninstall the app. Voided entries are kept in a recoverable list rather than being erased. Uninstalling Fuel Gauge removes its locally stored data from the device; any copy you exported, and any device backup, remains under your control.
Children's Privacy
Fuel Gauge does not collect data from anyone, including children. Since no data is collected or transmitted, there are no age-related privacy concerns.
Changes to This Policy
If this privacy policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL. Since Fuel Gauge collects no data, changes are unlikely, but we will update this policy if the app's data practices change in any way.
